Plexxikon Doses the First Patient in a Pivotal Phase III Trial of PLX4032 (RG7204)

January 11, 2010

Plexxikon Inc., of Berkeley, Calif., dosed the first patient in a pivotal Phase III trial of PLX4032 (RG7204) in patients with metastatic melanoma. Targeted, oral PLX4032 is designed to inhibit the BRAF cancer-causing mutation that occurs in about 50 percent of melanomas and about 8 percent of all solid tumors. The randomized, controlled trial's start triggered a "significant" milestone payment to Plexxikon from F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd., of Basel, Switzerland, its co-development partner, under their 2006 collaboration. (See BioWorld Today, Oct. 5, 2006.)
